Director, Business Evolution Strategic Development (BESD)

Purpose of the Role

The Director, BESD will support the development and implementation of forward‑thinking business and policy strategies that navigate today's policy and market landscape while anticipating and adapting to future shifts. The role will lead or support cross‑functional work streams, optimize innovative and actionable strategies, and maintain strong collaborative relationships across the enterprise. The Director must bring an enterprise mindset, deep understanding of the drug pricing environment, and insights into its impact on Abb Vie’s business, pipeline, and stakeholders.

• Strategic Initiatives – spearhead the development and execution of innovative and competitive strategies that integrate environment shaping with business readiness to navigate pharmaceutical price reform in the US today and in the future.
• Strategic Collaboration – partner with critical stakeholders across Government Affairs, Market Access, Legal, Finance, and Corporate Affairs to ensure cohesive alignment toward enterprise goals and drive strategies forward to achieve targeted objectives.
• Environmental Analysis and Horizon Scanning – monitor external political, regulatory, legislative, and market dynamics and develop impactful insight reports on evolving themes to support strategic decision‑making.
• Business Value Evaluation – identify opportunities to deliver actionable recommendations that enhance competitiveness and business impact, and support the creation of compelling business cases to accelerate strategic solutions.
• Stakeholder Engagement – develop effective presentations that communicate issues, pivotal updates, and business cases to cross‑functional leaders, and maintain productive relationships with internal stakeholders.

• Strategy – utilize extensive policy and business experience to guide strategies and investments, aligning diverse interests across the enterprise.
• Execution – deliver on initiatives with urgency and agility, pivoting as needed to account for shifting internal and external dynamics.
• Action and Accountability – advance strategy execution across work streams, inspire engagement, and make quick, informed decisions amid evolving market dynamics.
• Influence – persuasively influence stakeholders and partners, directly or indirectly, to achieve strategic goals.
• Collaboration and Teamwork – work collaboratively with internal and external experts to integrate leading insights into strategy development and ensure seamless cross‑functional execution.

• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or other advanced degree in a relevant field preferred.
• Minimum of 6‑8 years of progressively responsible experience in government affairs, public policy, market access, or business strategy within a pharmaceutical company, healthcare consulting firm, government agency, or think tank.
• Strong business acumen and demonstrated experience strategically shaping policy and business outcomes with a keen understanding of effective execution.
• Exceptional communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills; ability to influence without authority, speak and write persuasively, and manage competing priorities with attention to detail.
• Well‑honed political sensitivities, strong integrity, and the executive presence necessary to engage senior leaders and external stakeholders.
• Team‑oriented and comfortable in a collegial, collaborative, and high‑demand culture.

• Compensation range: the base pay compensation range described is the range of possible base pay Abb Vie intends to offer this role at the time of posting, dependent on geographic location and other factors.
