Job Description
The Reliability Engineer is the engineer responsible for driving continuous equipment reliability improvements, providing technical support, and managing reliability improvement processes for the site to reduce business risk. The role directs and provides leadership for key equipment assets, maintaining asset reliability at the highest levels, drives reliability of work processes, procedures and operating practices, and defines, designs, develops, and monitors the site’s critical asset register to standardize operation and care of key production, utility and supporting assets.
The engineer also manages the Reliability Engineering Plan, Maintenance Excellence Program (MEP) and related asset‑reliability metrics.
- Support the site’s MEP by providing weekly and monthly reports and targeting critical equipment assets for optimization and continuous improvement.
- Guide efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls and safety systems.
- Develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures, applying methods and processes to prevent or reduce the likelihood or frequency of failures in site systems.
- Analyze failure history to determine reliability characteristics of key systems and develop long‑term solutions to recurring issues.
- Develop and enforce an Asset Operations Plan Priorities to ensure optimum utilization and operating efficiency of facility assets, and create an Asset Maintenance Plan to sustain effective maintenance for each plant asset on the asset register.
- Adhere to Life Cycle Asset Management (LCAM) throughout the asset life cycle, conduct root‑cause failure analysis (RCFA) using failure data analysis techniques, and analyze asset and production equipment performance (utilization, OEE, MTBF, remaining useful life).
- Generate an asset management plan that includes value‑added preventative maintenance tasks and determines the most effective use of predictive and other non‑destructive testing methods to identify reliability problems.
- Collaborate with Project Engineering to review maintenance and installation plans for new equipment, and provide reliability and maintainability specifications for changes to ensure new and modified installations meet reliability standards.
- Establish a risk‑management approach that anticipates reliability‑related and non‑reliability‑related risks that could adversely impact operations.
- Follow established guidelines to comply with regulatory agencies such as OSHA, FDA, EPA, etc.
- BS in Engineering.
- 2 years of maintenance experience or similar.
- 2 years of reliability engineering experience or similar.
- Combined minimum experience of 2 years (not necessarily the sum of the above).
- Basic technical skills working with equipment; experience in Health Care/Pharmaceutical industry and/or Utilities processes.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to keep all personnel involved in an activity well informed.
