Title: Calibration and Repair Technician
Location: North Chicago, IL (60064)
Compensation: $35.00-$40.00/hr
General SummaryThe Calibration and Repair Technician needs experience in generation and distribution equipment; performing calibrations of instruments that measure the characteristics of objects, substances, or phenomena, such as pressure, temperature, time, force, torque, speed, flow, electric current, voltage, resistance, and derived units of physical, mechanical, or chemical measures. Identifies the magnitude of error sources contributing to the uncertainty of results to determine the reliability of the measurement process in quantitative terms.
To be successful, the position will interface with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, suppliers, and 3rd party contractor firms. Candidates should feel comfortable working in a plant environment. Strong communication and leadership skills along with technical knowledge of pharmaceutical/medical device projects are required.
Principal Accountabilities- Steam Generators:
Calibration of steam pressure and temperature instruments is essential for steam generators used in various pharmaceutical processes such as sterilization and heating. - Chillers:
Calibration of temperature controllers and sensors in chiller systems is important to maintain precise temperature control in processes where cooling is required. - Boilers:
Instruments measuring parameters like pressure and temperature in boiler systems may undergo calibration to ensure safe and efficient steam generation. - Compressed Air Systems:
Calibration of pressure gauges, flow meters, and other instruments in compressed air systems is crucial for processes requiring clean and dry compressed air, such as pneumatic conveying or equipment operation. - HVAC Systems:
Calibration of temperature and humidity sensors, as well as control systems, is vital for maintaining controlled environmental conditions in manufacturing areas, storage facilities, and clean rooms. - Power Distribution Systems:
Instruments in power distribution systems, such as voltage and current meters, may be calibrated to ensure the stability and reliability of electrical power supply to critical equipment. - Emergency Power Generators:
Calibration of instruments on emergency power generators, including voltage regulators and frequency controllers, helps ensure these systems function correctly during power outages. - Water Distribution Systems:
Calibration of instruments in water distribution systems, including flow meters and pressure sensors, contributes to the accurate control and monitoring of water usage in various processes. - Gas Distribution Systems:
Calibration of instruments in gas distribution systems, such as pressure regulators and flow meters, is important for processes that require controlled gas atmospheres. - Backup Systems:
Instruments in backup systems, such as uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units, may be calibrated to ensure a smooth transition during power outages and prevent disruptions to critical processes.
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited higher learning institution is required. PMEL or other military/technical education is highly preferred.
- At least 2 years of Metrology experience.
- Must possess practical knowledge of Metrology and measurement practices.
- Must possess knowledge of related quality systems and practices (i.e. ISO 17025, ANSI/Z540-1).
- Must have analytical skills to identify sources of measurement error and to read and interpret technical schematics, specifications and calibration procedures.
- Must have good communication skills to respond to metrology questions in writing or orally, in a clear, concise manner.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, efficiently works under pressures, within deadlines or other time essential constraints.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to clearly and concisely communicate to all levels of the organization.
