Job Description
The primary objective of this position is to provide financial leadership, study forecasting, and business support for Immunology therapeutic areas dynamic clinical portfolio within R&D Therapeutics, with a portion of ~2.5Bn spend. This role partners closely with therapeutic leadership teams to establish prioritization, align related programs, optimize funding, and ensure financial commitments. It interacts with all levels of finance and business leadership.
ResponsibilitiesFinancial Planning and Analysis
- Proactively lead the planning processes (Plan, LBE, LRP) ensuring accurate integration of clinical study forecasts and other external spend types, meeting R&D corporate deadlines and deliverables.
- Ensure financial planning and reporting deliverables are accurate, clear and concise for executive review.
- Align clinical assumptions with commercial finance for Plan and LRP cycles.
- Sponsor and drive initiatives to improve agility and effectiveness of the clinical budgeting process, including procurement savings.
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders to prioritize the portfolio for the quarterly portfolio prioritization process, identifying roadmap scenarios and trade-offs.
- Review all funding requests to governance and prepare financial summaries inclusive of external spend types for R&D Finance governance sessions.
- Drive integration of new companies/assets into the R&D portfolio.
- Partner with the business to generate monthly Items to Monitor List to provide financial transparency on program risks or changes.
- Drive ad‑hoc analysis as business needs dictate.
- Lead team in developing costs for multi‑year clinical studies, monitoring progress, and revising estimates with justification.
- Provide study forecasts for deal models for all potential business development agreements.
- Be a strategic partner to optimize decision making and meet financial commitments.
- Adhere to forecasting best practices and utilize R&D clinical cost calculator and cost categories.
- Lead, direct and develop a team of 4–10 finance professionals, setting goals, motivating and empowering the team.
- Oversee GL and month‑end close activities, ensuring accuracy, predictability and compliance with financial policies.
- Prepare quarterly and annual intangible asset valuations support.
- Develop effective reporting, monitor performance and support contingency plans.
- Partner with external and internal audit teams to complete audits and implement recommendations.
- Enhance internal controls, ensuring financial results recorded in compliance with SOX and GAAP.
- 12+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience with 5+ years of management experience.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in leading and motivating a team in a dynamic business environment.
- Ability to solve business problems through proactive identification, collection, analysis, and interpretation of data.
- Experience in a complex global organization and integrating activities across multiple functions/divisions. Pharmaceutical sector experience a plus.
- Strong PowerPoint, scenario planning and data presentation skills.
- High personal integrity, energy and objectivity.
- MBA or CPA, and understanding of automated accounting systems such as SAP, BPC.
The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
This range may be modified in the future.
