PurposeThe primary objective of this position is to provide financial leadership, study forecasting, and business support for the Neuroscience therapeutic area’s dynamic clinical portfolio within R&D Therapeutics, overseeing a ~ $2.5 Bn spend.
Core Responsibilities- Financial Planning and Analysis
- Lead planning processes (Plan, LBE, and LRP), integrate clinical study forecasts and other external spend types.
- Deliver accurate and concise financial planning and reporting for executive review.
- Align clinical assumptions with Commercial finance for Plan and LRP cycles.
- Drive initiatives to improve the clinical budgeting process, including procurement savings.
- Business Partnering / FP&A
- Collaborate with stakeholders (PPM, ASL, PI, TASC) during portfolio prioritization and roadmap development.
- Review all funding requests and prepare governance summaries for VP, R&D Finance.
- Work cross‑functionally to integrate new companies/assets into the R&D portfolio.
- Generate monthly “Items to Monitor” list for financial transparency on program risks.
- Conduct ad‑hoc analysis as business needs dictate.
- Study Forecasting
- Lead team to develop multi‑year study costs, monitor progress, and revise estimates with causal rationale.
- Provide study forecasts for deal models (opt‑ins, licensing, acquisitions).
- Partner with business leaders to optimize decision making and ensure forecast accuracy.
- Adhere to forecasting best practices and utilize the R&D clinical cost calculator.
- People Leadership & Development
- Lead, direct, and develop a team of 4–10 finance professionals, setting goals and ensuring high performance.
- Financial Reporting & Internal Control
- Oversee general ledger and month‑end close activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare quarterly and annual intangible asset valuations.
- Develop reporting, monitor performance, and support contingency planning.
- Collaborate with audit teams to complete audit cycles and implement recommendations.
- Enhance internal controls in compliance with Abb Vie financial policies, SOX and GAAP.
- Required
- 12+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, with 5+ years in management.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in finance or accounting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience leading and motivating a team in a dynamic business environment.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to solve business problems with data.
- Experience in a complex global organization and ability to integrate across functions; pharmaceutical sector experience a plus.
- Proficiency in PowerPoint, scenario planning, and data storytelling.
- High personal integrity, energy, and objectivity.
- Preferred
- MBA in accounting or finance and/or CPA.
- Solid understanding of automated accounting systems such as SAP, BPC, and desktop productivity applications.
Compensation for this role is a base salary range of $200,000–$250,000, subject to change based on location and other factors.
