Job Purpose

Works directly with Strategic Operations leadership and the designated functional leader (VP or Head) to support broad, cross‑functional strategy development and to implement function‑specific strategies that align with and ensure the achievement of the organization’s vision and objectives. Provides strategic thought partnership to designated leaders in setting and driving functional strategy, supporting them in amplifying and executing integrated strategies and fostering a culture where employees feel connected, valued, and inspired.

Responsibilities
  • Reports to the Senior Director, Business Operations and Strategy; works directly with the department Vice President/Head and their leadership teams to ensure cross‑departmental collaboration and connectivity to broader functional operational strategies.
  • With Clin Sci Leadership Team, monitors, evaluates, and optimizes departmental operational excellence within the designated function and across Clinical Sciences.
  • Supports designated functional leader in developing and implementing function‑specific business area vision and strategic priorities.
  • Advises designated functional leader in designing, overseeing, and executing business management routines, including strategic planning, headcount management, finance/budget (in partnership with Finance colleagues), continuous learning, employee engagement, talent/performance review, and management.
  • Ensures cross‑functional linkage and influence between department and internal/external partners.
  • Serves as Chief of Staff for the designated functional VP/Head, overseeing the collection, synthesis, and communication of relevant information for departmental and functional strategy.
  • Supports department leader in overall strategy development and day‑to‑day execution, aligning integrated strategies with overarching business priorities.
  • Creates strong relationships across Strategic Operations and functional teams to optimize collaboration across Clinical Sciences.
  • Designs, oversees, and contributes to long‑term strategic planning for the department, using insights, research, and business acumen.
  • Identifies, plans, leads, and tracks priority activities and initiatives, assisting management in selecting action plans that best meet business objectives.
  • Coordinates, monitors, evaluates, and optimizes departmental operational excellence in partnership with Clin Sci Leadership Team, ensuring sustainable resolution of issues and deficiencies.
  • Maximizes opportunities to highlight best practices, reduce duplication, and engage employees through capability building resources.
  • Liaises with other departments and functions to foster strategic partnerships, identify opportunities, and resolve issues; leads function communications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's, master’s, or advanced degree in science or a business‑related field, with 5+ years of experience in a similar role (e.g., Chief of Staff).
  • Objective strategic thinker with a demonstrated drive for results.
  • Analytical orientation comfortable with ambiguity and complexity.
  • Dependable, trusted leader experienced with confidential information.
  • Ability to connect dots and influence across a complex organization.
  • Excellent emotional intelligence and relationship‑building skills.
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and mentoring/coaching skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, adept at packaging information for different audiences.
  • Basic knowledge of project‑management practices, portfolio review, finance, and budgeting.
