Job DescriptionAbb Vie is seeking a highly motivated and experienced scientist to join our Quantitative, Translation & ADME Sciences (QTAS) team in North Chicago. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise with in‑vitro models, drug metabolizing enzyme function, drug‑drug interaction concepts, and quantitative bioanalysis, and the ability to spot, ideate and drive cutting‑edge science. Applicants with experience in adjacent areas such as drug permeability and transport, receptor pharmacology, or pharmacokinetic modeling are desirable.
In this role, you will implement innovative quantitative approaches to advance translational ADME, conduct laboratory work, and contribute to the global in‑vitro ADME strategy. You will qualify, confirm, and evaluate new technologies and support mechanistic and translational understanding of early and late‑stage small molecules to advance drug candidates in our pipeline, with opportunities to contribute to broader areas within DMPK.
Responsibilities
- Laboratory experimentation in cellular and subcellular models
- Evaluating novel in‑vitro tools and methods, and applying established methods and concepts to improve prediction of human PK and drug‑drug interaction potential
- As needed, liaise with QTAS, discovery biology/pharmacology to generate data supporting translational, mechanistic models
- Communicate internally and externally on topics related to in‑vitro drug metabolism
- Keep up to date with emerging literature and science in modeling and in‑vitro approaches
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education, typically 10 years of experience;
Master’s Degree, 8 years;
PhD, no experience required - Strong experience in cell culture methods, including hepatocytes and cell lines
- Deep understanding of drug metabolism and ADME principles including enzyme kinetics, IVIVE, and DDI risk assessment
- Strong and relevant publication record
- Highly motivated, self‑driven, results‑oriented with excellent communication and presentation skills; capable of working both individually and as part of a team
- Passion for generating ideas, learning, solving technical problems, and applying new technologies to further scientific goals
- Builds strong relationships with peers and cross‑functional partners to enable higher performance
