This position is located in the Facility Management Department at Captain James
A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, IL. The Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of the electronic HVAC systems utilized at the facility.

Job Type: Permanent, Full-time, Regular Schedule
No telework, no travel required, no relocation expenses reimbursed.
Duties and Responsibilities- Perform various types of complex control systems, including electrical/electronic, pneumatic, and related controls.
- Troubleshoot computer-based HVAC systems, station fire system, and variable speed AC and DC controllers; resolve problems related to controls and alarm systems of all equipment.
- Establish and maintain documentation for all systems such as drawings, programs, sequences of operation, preventive maintenance records, and machinery history records.
- Conduct field checks and update control drawings for engineering draftsmen.
- Evaluate the condition of all HVAC system components and inspect station fire alarm systems.
- Provide training to maintenance tradesmen on complex system operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Offer technical assistance and project support for renovation and construction projects involving controls.
- Interface with outside manufacturers for repair of failed systems and installation/checkout of new systems.
- Interpret engineering drawings for layout, location, and operation of control systems.
- Create engineering drawings and sequence-of-operation analysis as required.
- Present written and oral reports on control equipment status and proposed system changes.
- You must be a U.S. citizen.
- Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959.
- Pre-employment physical and background/security investigation required.
- Required pre-employment onboarding and acceptable identification forms; REAL- driver’s license or state-issued .
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required.
- 1-year probationary period; job may be terminated if not certified as advancing public interest.
- Valid State-issued driver’s license.
- Proficiency to read, write, and understand English.
- Lifting, carrying, and moving up to 50 lbs unassisted; heavier loads with assistance.
- Work on ladders, scaffolds, and platforms; frequent stooping, bending, kneeling.
- Hands‑eye coordination, manual dexterity, color discrimination for color codes.
- Work indoors and outdoors, elevated structures, and confined spaces; exposure to dust, chemicals, and electrical hazards.

This position does not have an education qualification requirement.
