Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: Munich

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Technical Project Manager to join our dynamic team working at the forefront of space technology. In this role, you will play a critical part in the planning, coordination, and execution of complex aerospace projects—including spacecraft development, subsystem development, integration and launch, and designing for customer concept of operations. Some of these projects will be delivered under national security and governmental contracts.

You’ll act as the technical interface between engineering teams, project management, and external stakeholders—including, where applicable, government and defense customers—to ensure mission success and compliance with applicable security requirements.

What You’ll Do as a Technical Project Manager Project Planning & Execution
  • Lead and coordinate cross‑functional engineering teams to deliver project milestones on time and within budget, including on national security programs where applicable contractual security requirements must be met.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, risk registers, and technical documentation, including, where applicable, security classification and handling of controlled information.
  • Manage engineering change processes, ensuring alignment with project goals and, where applicable, with governmental contract and security requirements.
Technical Leadership
  • Lead system‑level design, integration, and verification efforts, including the implementation of national security and governmental contract requirements on relevant programs.
  • Participate in technical reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR, etc.) and ensure all engineering outputs meet mission requirements and, where applicable, contractual and security requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate technical and, where applicable, security‑related risks throughout the product lifecycle.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Interface with internal teams, subcontractors, government and defense agencies, customers, and—where applicable—security officers, addressing technical and, on relevant programs, security‑related matters of the projects.
  • Communicate technical and project status clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
Compliance & Standards
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace standards (NASA, ESA, ECSS, MIL‑STD, etc.), internal quality systems, and—where applicable—national security and export control regulations.
  • Assist in developing and improving engineering processes and best practices.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and execution of product assurance activities across the program lifecycle, ensuring deliverables meet quality, reliability, and mission assurance requirements.
Key

Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of experience in aerospace, defense, or space systems engineering, including prior experience leading multi‑disciplinary engineering teams or programs.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and space mission lifecycle.
  • Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, JIRA, Primavera) and ideally certified PM (e.g., IPMA, PMP).
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills both internally and externally with customer and government stakeholders.
  • Language skills:
    German (native), English (C1 level).
  • Eligibility to work in Germany / EU.
  • Knowledge and experience working with governmental contracts and related security requirements.
Preferred Skills
  • German Ü2 security clearance (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Proficiency with modeling and analysis software (e.g., Solid Works, MATLAB, STK).
  • Experience with satellite systems, propulsion, launch integration, or spacecraft avionics.
  • Familiarity with Agile or hybrid project methodologies.

Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in the office.

Access to US export‑controlled software and/or technology may be required for this role. If needed, Spire will arrange the necessary licenses—this is not something candidates need to have before applying.
