About the Church
Connection Church Hettinger is prayerfully seeking a bi-vocational pastor to shepherd our congregation. There is potential for becoming fulltime as the church grows. We are a small congregation in the rural town of Hettinger, ND. The church was established in 2019. We believe the church exists to exalt the Savior, edify the saints and evangelize the lost. The congregation is multigenerational.
About 40% of our weekly attendance consists of children/youth. We have an active Sunday School, men’s Bible study, women’s Bible study and a youth Bible study group. We primarily sing hymns with some contemporary songs with careful attention to the theology and song writer. We are currently meeting in a rented space awaiting God’s direction regarding a permanent location.
Candidates should have a clear understanding of scripture, have a desire for reaching the lost and also a desire to meet the spiritual needs of our congregation. Candidate should meet the biblical requirements for an elder according to 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9. We seek a pastor who will teach all of God’s Word verse by verse using expository teaching.
We desire a pastor who will emphasize the biblical importance of the family unit and support and encourage biblical family roles including encouraging parents in discipling their children. We desire a pastor who will lead by example. The pastor will be well supported by congregants who enjoy serving in the church. This is a part-time, paid position. Wage is to be determined based on the situation.
the Community
Hettinger is a small town in a rural community. There are many job opportunities, many of which are related to agriculture, medical or the school. There is a pre-K through 12th grade school in town with homeschooling being fairly common among the families in our church. There is a hospital/clinic in the town with ER, Surgical, ICU and OB services. This portion of North Dakota is known for prime pheasant and deer hunting.
Dickinson is about 1 hour away and is the nearest larger town with a regional airport, Walmart and other shopping. Most people in the community would consider themselves Christian, but there is a great spiritual blindness in the community with false hope placed in religion and tradition vs. the redeeming work of Jesus Christ.
The lead pastor’s responsibilities are to be carried out with humility, prayer, biblical guidance and accountability to God and church members. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
ResponsibilitiesIncludes preparing and delivering sermons during weekly worship and special events
Includes hospital visits (congregants assist as needed), conducting weddings and funerals, offering biblical counseling
Includes working alongside church leaders to set the vision and direction of the church, develop strategies for outreach and encouraging the congregation to engage in ministry
Includes mentoring church leaders and members, fostering spiritual growth and encouraging discipleship within the congregation
Includes engaging with the local community through day-to-day interactions, outreach events and personal evangelism efforts.
Includes serving as the primary spiritual overseer ensuring church’s activities, curriculum and music align with the Bible
