The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long‑term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. The LPN demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting, competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident as per care plan.

Responsibilities include performing testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident's status and providing the necessary care; recognizing problems, recommending solutions, and responding effectively to assist in emergent situations; ensuring the health, comfort and safety of residents; contributing to the assessment of residents; administering medications or treatments as ordered; providing technical support to healthcare professionals; documenting resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary;

establishing and maintaining effective relationships with residents, health care providers, and the public; working effectively with professional and supportive personnel as a member of an interdisciplinary care team; communicating clearly and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information; counseling residents, family members, and/or resident advocate under the direction of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider or physician on prevention and treatment plans;

and engaging residents in education principles to develop a self‑care program. The LPN performs other related duties as assigned.

• Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse; an associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.
• Must have attended a pre‑licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the lifespan or have a minimum of 400 hours of experience as an LPN at another facility.
• If the position requires IV therapy/management skills, graduation from a Board‑approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing is required.
• Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with the State Nursing Board and/or possesses multi‑state licensure privileges.
• Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications and completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements of the department and facility.
