JOB SUMMARY
A Certified Medication Aide is responsible for administering daily medication to patients. Works under the supervision of a licensed Nurse. Assists professional nursing personnel in providing nursing care, monitoring patients, reporting changes, and collecting samples.
QUALIFICATIONS- High school graduate or have equivalent
- Certified Medication Aide required
- BLS and CNA/MA II Certification required
- 2-3 years’ experience in health field preferred
- Good understanding of medical and pharmacological terminology
- Participates in quality assurance activities, meetings, and in-services.
- Professional attitude, leadership role and team member abilities.
- Maintains a positive professional role throughout the facility and community.
- Accountability for safety standards.
- Safeguarding the privacy and security of protected health information (PHI) in any form, including electronic, written, or oral.
- Maintain the security of company-assigned devices by adhering to IT security protocols, including timely installation of updates, use of strong passwords, and compliance with all cybersecurity policies.
- Accurately administers medications observing the six rights.
- Verbalizes knowledge of medications administered and desired drug effects.
- Demonstrates knowledge regarding the resident’s general health and the condition that the medication is prescribed to treat or prevent.
- Verbalizes knowledge of adverse reactions, drug/drug interactions and drug/food interactions.
- Administers medications and therapies in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
- Follows governmental regulations for administering and storing medications.
- Reports any medication schedule adjustments that need to be made to the Charge Nurse.
- Respects resident rights, including the right to refuse medication and the right to be informed of the consequences of that refusal.
- Administers medications and treatments in the proper setting, respecting the residents’ right to privacy.
- Maintains accurate and complete documentation for medications administered.
- Complete other CNA duties and assist other staff when needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work takes place in the Basic Care area. CMA are involved in the administration of medications to geriatric residents.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDSRequires full range of motion, standing, and walking for extensive periods of time, and occasional lifting, carrying of items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions intermittently. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
