The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. Demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting and applies appropriate age and population specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident as per care plan.
Performs testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident's status and provides necessary care. Recognizes problems, recommends solutions, and responds effectively to assist in an emergent situation. Ensures the health, comfort and safety of residents, contributes to assessment of residents, administers medications or treatments as ordered, provides technical support to healthcare professionals as needed, and documents resident interactions and outcomes.
Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with residents, health care providers, and the public. Communicates clearly and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information. Counsels residents, family members and/or resident advocates, under the direction of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider or physician on prevention and treatment plans. Knowledge of resident education principles to develop a self-care program and performs other related duties as assigned.
Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse; an associate degree in practical nursing is preferred. If the position requires IV therapy/management skills, completion of a Board approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing is required. Must have attended a pre‑licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the life span as part of the curriculum or a minimum of 400 hours of experience as an LPN at another facility.
Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with the State Nursing board and/or possesses multi‑state licensure privileges. Maintains required department specific competencies and certifications, and completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements of the department and facility.
