Job Summary

The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The role provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Responsibilities include providing age‑appropriate care, following infection prevention and control policies, and using personal protective equipment. The NA assists with basic health care needs such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, and recording vital signs.

Additional duties involve transferring, repositioning, and walking residents with proper techniques, performing range‑of‑motion and passive exercises, and supporting food preparation and dining. The NA documents resident interactions, communicates changes in condition to the charge nurse, collects non‑invasive body fluid specimens, and provides housekeeping, laundry, and recreational program support. The position may also participate in departmental and organizational committees and task forces as needed.

Qualifications
  • High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred but not required.
  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required, to be completed within four months of hire.
  • Must complete yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintain continuing education credits.
  • A minimum of 12 hours of continuing education required annually.
  • Maintain all department‑specific required certifications; may need to be registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Provider (UAP) Registry, if applicable.
  • The role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver; a clean motor vehicle record and valid driver’s license are required, along with medical qualification to perform driving functions.
