Department Details: 12‑hour Night Shift, night differential and weekend differential.
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. The LPN demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting. The LPN demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident as per care plan.
The LPN performs testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident's status and to provide the care needed, recognizes problems, recommends solutions and responds effectively to assist in an emergent situation. The LPN ensures the health, comfort and safety of residents, contributes to the assessment of residents and administers medications or treatments as ordered, and provides technical support to healthcare professionals as needed.
The LPN documents resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary, and is skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with residents, health care providers, and the public. The LPN works effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team, communicates clearly, maintains confidentiality of sensitive information, counsels residents, family members and/or resident advocates under the direction of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider or physician on prevention and treatment plans, applies resident education principles to develop a self‑care program, and performs other related duties as assigned.
- Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.
- If the position requires IV therapy/management skills, must have graduated from a Board approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or completed an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing.
- Must have attended a pre‑licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the life span or have at least 400 hours of experience as an LPN at another facility.
- Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with the State Nursing board and/or possess multi‑state licensure privileges.
- Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
- Completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements of the department and facility.
