Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long‑term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. The LPN demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for residents in the relevant clinical setting, practices within the full scope of nursing expertise, and uses appropriate age‑ and population‑specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident as per the care plan.

The LPN performs testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident's status and provides the care needed, recognizes problems, recommends solutions, and responds effectively in emergent situations. Responsibilities include ensuring the health, comfort, and safety of residents, contributing to assessment, administering medications or treatments as ordered, providing technical support to healthcare professionals, documenting resident interactions and outcomes, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with residents, health‑care providers, and the public, communicating clearly while maintaining confidentiality, counseling residents, family members, and advocates on prevention and treatment plans, developing self‑care programs, and performing other related duties as required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care for residents of all ages in long‑term care under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of nursing principles and practice within the full scope of nursing expertise.
  • Perform testing to evaluate resident status and provide needed care.
  • Recognize problems, recommend solutions, and respond effectively in emergent situations.
  • Ensure the health, comfort, and safety of residents.
  • Contribute to assessment of residents and administer medications or treatments as ordered.
  • Provide technical support to healthcare professionals as needed.
  • Document resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the public.
  • Communicate clearly and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Counsel residents, family members, and/or resident advocates on prevention and treatment plans.
  • Develop self‑care programs for residents.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.
  • If the position requires IV therapy/management skills, graduate from a board‑approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or complete an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing.
  • Have attended a pre‑licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the lifespan as part of the curriculum or have had at least 400 hours of experience as an LPN at another facility.
  • Currently hold an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with the State Nursing Board and/or possess multi‑state licensure privileges.
  • Maintain required departmental competencies and certifications, completing required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training.
