  • Current North Dakota RN licensure - required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - required
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – preferred within 12 months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – preferred but not required
Summary

The Emergency Department/Inpatient RN provides high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients of all ages in both the Emergency Department and Critical Access Hospital inpatient setting. The RN performs rapid assessment, triage, stabilization, treatment, and ongoing patient monitoring while collaborating with providers and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care. Utilizing strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and prioritization skills, the RN delivers safe, efficient, and compassionate care across a broad range of patient conditions and acuity levels.

The RN promotes patient advocacy, teamwork, and effective communication with patients, families, providers, and staff to support positive outcomes and continuity of care.

Essential Functions
  • Triage and Assessment: Performs initial triage and rapid assessment of patients upon arrival according to Emergency Severity Index (ESI) or facility policy. Recognizes and responds promptly to changes in patient condition or deterioration. Completes and documents accurate assessments, interventions, and outcomes within required time frames.
  • Emergency Care and Stabilization: Provides immediate, skilled nursing care for patients with trauma, cardiac, respiratory, obstetric, pediatric, and behavioral emergencies. Initiates and assists with advanced life support procedures, including cardiac monitoring, IV access, airway management, and medication administration per protocol. Prepares for and assists with emergency procedures such as intubation, chest tube insertion, and code response.
  • Coordination and

    Collaboration:

    Collaborates with providers and ancillary staff to develop and implement individualized care plans. Communicates clearly during handoffs, transfers, and team huddles. Coordinates care for patients being admitted, transferred, or discharged.
  • Documentation and Communication: Accurately documents assessments, interventions, patient responses, and outcomes in the electronic medical record. Ensures timely communication with patients, families and care team members.
  • Patient and Family Support: Provides education and emotional support to patients and families during stressful situations. Advocates for patient needs and ensures respect, privacy, and safety at all times.
