Position: CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant - FT - Days - St. Vincent's
Location: New Salem

Job Summary

The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The NA provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to an assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The role includes age‑appropriate care according to the resident’s physical and psychological needs as outlined in the care plan. Responsibilities include infection prevention and control, personal protective equipment use, and nursing assistance with basic health care needs.

The NA assists with bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support. The position also involves transferring, repositioning, and walking the resident with proper techniques, range‑of‑motion exercises, and passive exercises. The NA completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, ensuring a positive dining experience. Duties further include documenting resident interactions, communicating changing conditions to the charge nurse, collecting non‑invasive body fluid specimens, maintaining housekeeping, laundry, and laundry, supporting wellness and recreational programs, and participating in departmental or organization committees as needed.

Qualifications
  • High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred.
  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care is preferred.
  • Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state‑certified CNA within four months of the position start date, or enrollment in a training program toward certification. CNA training and certification is required and provided by the facility.
  • Completion of yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintenance of continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually).
  • Certification and registration with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry where applicable.
  • Potential classification as a Sanford Category II Driver, pending driving responsibilities, requiring a valid driver’s license, medical qualification, and compliance with the Sanford Driving Policy.
