Description

Plans, organizes and supervises staff to provide quality care to meet the total needs of residents on all shifts.

Complies with established policies and procedures, makes recommendations for changes in policies and procedures to improve quality of care and provides proper role model for staff.

Essential Functions, Roles, and Responsibilities
  • All licensed nurses will be orientated to all neighborhoods and be able to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays as scheduled. Will help out by picking up open shifts when able.
  • Administers professional service within your scope of practice in a professional and safe manner.
  • Ensures that the resident's rights are being upheld according to the Resident's Bill of Rights.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make good, knowledgeable, consensual decisions regarding nursing care, and the ability to make independent decisions in a crisis situation. Will communicate with Nurse Management in a timely manner.
  • Performs thorough assessment and documentation of the resident; completes pertinent, precise and thorough documentation in the resident chart. (ie: EMAR/ETAR, nurses notes, weekly summaries, daily census sheets, bed hold forms, hospital transfer forms, Medicare documentation, weekly assessment forms) and communicates to C.N.As any resident appointments and all pertinent information.
  • Develops and maintains a good working rapport with interdepartmental personnel within the facility to assure that the nursing department services and activities can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the resident. Follows the employee Code of Conduct with all employee interactions.
  • Accurately distributes medications to appropriate resident per physician orders. Narcotic use is recorded and narcotic count is completed per KRCC policy and procedure.
  • Appropriately supervises Certified Medication Aides in their functional capacity to assist the nurse with medication passes and monitors their effectiveness; addressing and reporting any issues noted in a timely manner.
  • Consults physician in a timely manner regarding resident’s condition.
  • Accurately receives and transcribes physician orders in the electronic system, including KRCC protocols: ie IV’s and wound care. Ensures diagnostic or therapeutic services ordered by the physician are scheduled and notifies pharmacy of medication changes when applicable.
  • Notifies resident’s legal guardian, family in a timely manner per KRCC policy when the resident becomes critically ill, injured, when there is a significant change in condition, a fall, death, or any other condition warranted.
  • Completes required record keeping forms and charts upon admission, discharge and transfer. Updates care plans as assigned and PRN.
  • Understand infection control, aseptic techniques and Standard Precautions. Implements appropriate policies and procedures to assure staff and resident safety.
  • Supervise and monitor the delivery of care by nursing assistants according to the resident’s care plans. Give clear, precise assignments and resident report to C.N.A’s.
  • Oversight of CNA daily staffing, which includes handling staff call off’s and calling in additional staff as necessary.
  • Collects specimen per physician order, ie: blood draws, accu-checks, wound cultures, urine specimen, etc.
  • Reports any incidents of verbal, sexual, physical, mental, or emotional abuse immediately to the administrator or his/her designee. Must be able to identify and report inappropriate behavior, such as using derogatory language, rough handling or any other incident that might be considered abuse, neglect or misappropriation of funds.
Other Duties
  • Assures that unit is maintained in a clean and safe manner. Restock supplies as needed.
  • Knows and carries out Disaster Pyramid and Emergency Policies appropriately.
Requirements

Currently licensed in the state of North Dakota. Must be IV certified or working towards IV certification and hold current CPR certification.

Summary

Genuine interest in Geriatric Nursing. Demonstrates the ability to work well with all levels of personnel in a supervisory capacity. Demonstrates good judgment, initiative, dependability and emotional stability. Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures.

Full-time or part-time hours

Full-time or part-time hours. Days, evenings, and night shift available. Rotating weekends and holidays.
