Duties ER Duties
  • Assess, plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate skilled patient care in accordance with nursing standards and evidence‑based practice.
  • Supervise nursing care by professional and nonprofessional staff, providing guidance, evaluation, and feedback.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers to develop and implement coordinated care plans.
  • Utilize critical thinking to make complex clinical decisions and respond effectively to rapidly changing patient conditions.
OB Duties
  • Initiate pre‑planned emergency nursing interventions to ensure maternal and neonatal safety when a physician or midwife is not immediately available.
  • Administer therapeutic interventions including medications, IV fluids, blood products, and other treatments per established policies.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans across the continuum of care including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, obstetrical triage, and newborn nursery services.
  • Obtain and maintain required certifications such as BLS, ACLS, and NRP.
OR Duties
  • Formulate, implement, and document individualized plans of care based on assessment findings.
  • Respond to life‑threatening situations and initiate emergency resuscitation measures per adult and pediatric resuscitation protocols.
  • Maintain required certifications (ACLS, BLS, PALS) and demonstrate competency in advanced perioperative nursing skills.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to plan, coordinate, and evaluate patient care.
  • Perform on‑call duties as required during off‑tour hours for emergency surgical and procedural cases.
Med‑Surg/Inpatient Duties
  • Promote evidence‑based nursing practice through coordinated care focused on patient education, self‑management, and overall satisfaction.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care based on clinical findings and the nursing process.
  • Administer medications and perform procedures per established policies and clinical standards.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions to ensure safety.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards and maintain current clinical knowledge.
Requirements

Conditions of employment include probationary period for selectees, U.S. Citizenship, and selective service registration for males born after 12/31/1959. The position is a competitive vacancy advertised under Direct Hire Authority. Candidates must succeed in E‑Verify employment verification and may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Background investigation is required and must be completed within five calendar days of issuance. Successful completion is a condition of employment.

Qualifications

To qualify, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the specific position. Experience includes paid, volunteer, and part‑time work. Credit is given for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part‑time effort.

Minimum Qualifications

ER GS‑09:
Provide professional nursing care, triage using the Emergency Severity Index system, and respond promptly in emergency situations.

ER GS‑11:
Serve as a senior clinical expert in emergency nursing, managing care for complex patients, and leading unit‑level quality improvement initiatives.

OB GS‑09:
Deliver comprehensive obstetrical nursing care, develop individualized care plans, and respond effectively to emergencies.

OB GS‑11:
Provide independent comprehensive care in obstetrical department, lead departmental initiatives, and serve as clinical resource.

OR GS‑09:
Offer pre‑ and post‑operative nursing care, maintain BLS and ACLS certification, and support surgical protocols.

OR GS‑11:
Develop infection‑control policies, analyze data, coordinate training, and support patient disposition.
