The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. Provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The NA delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per the care plan, adheres to infection prevention and control policies, and uses personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities include aid with daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support. The NA assists with transferring, repositioning, and walking using proper techniques and equipment, performs range‑of‑motion and passive exercises, prepares and serves food, and ensures a positive dining experience. The NA also assists residents with meals, drinks, and supplements, aids providers and nursing staff with procedures, documents resident interactions and care outcomes, and communicates changes in resident condition to the charge nurse.

The NA collects non‑invasive body fluid specimens, gathers vital signs, performs housekeeping, laundry, and supports wellness and recreational programs, encouraging participation. The NA may also participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces as needed.

• High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
• Minimum age of 16.
• Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
• Must hold a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or be enrolled in a training program or process of obtaining certification through endorsement within four months of start date.
• Successfully complete yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintain a record of continuing education credits each year; a minimum of 12 hours completing annually.
• Maintain all required department‑specific certifications and, where applicable, be certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
• Depending on facility responsibilities, may be classified as a Sanford Category II Driver and must provide a valid driver’s license, vehicle report, and meet medical qualifications per Sanford Driving Policy.
