ResponsibilitiesThe Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The NA provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to the assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The NA delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per the care plan.
As a member of the nursing team, the NA is expected to comply with infection prevention and control policies and the use of personal protective equipment. The NA assists with basic health‑care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and other personal care to the assigned resident.
Assist the resident in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct and appropriate transfer techniques and equipment, and also provide range‑of‑motion and passive exercises.
Complete tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience for the resident. Assist residents with meals and snacks, provide water and supplements as appropriate.
The NA aids providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed, documents resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care, behavior, activity, and diet, and communicates changes in the resident’s condition to the charge nurse.
Provide housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents with keeping living areas clean and operational. Assist with documentation of wellness and recreational programs and encourage resident participation.
QualificationsHigh school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state‑certified CNA within four months of starting the position. The candidate must be enrolled in a training program or in the process of obtaining certification through endorsement. CNA training and certification are required and will be provided by the facility.
Satisfactorily complete yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintain a record of continuing education credits each year.
Dependent on facility and required responsibilities, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a motor vehicle license.
