The National Park Service (NPS) oversees over 420 natural, cultural, and recreational sites across the United States. As a network preserving places like the Grand Canyon, the Statue of Liberty, and Gettysburg, the NPS ensures the protection of America's diverse natural and cultural heritage. National parks are visited by people from around the world, serving as both recreational destinations and educational resources.

In addition to maintaining parks, the NPS supports local communities by providing grants and assistance to conserve natural resources and historic spaces while fostering recreational opportunities. The NPS also collaborates internationally, sharing best practices for preserving and managing protected areas.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role located in Medora, ND, for a Laborer position with the National Park Service. The Laborer will be responsible for maintaining park facilities and grounds, including cleaning, landscaping, and basic repairs. Day-to-day duties may involve tasks such as mowing, trimming vegetation, painting, hauling materials, and operating equipment necessary for grounds and facility upkeep. The role also includes safely using tools and assisting in the maintenance of trails, roads, and buildings to ensure public and staff safety.

Teamwork and adherence to safety protocols are essential aspects of this position.

Qualifications
  • Experience with landscaping and general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and basic gardening
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment, such as mowers, trimmers, and hand tools
  • Basic repair and maintenance skills for facilities, including painting and minor structural repairs
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, lift heavy objects, and work in various outdoor conditions
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and the ability to adhere to them during work
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with colleagues effectively
  • Previous experience in a similar role is a plus
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred
