Position Description
A Rig Welder operates welding equipment to fuse metals using various cutting and welding processes on pipelines, rigs, plants and facilities.
Essential Job Functions- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Prepared and on time for scheduled shift with proper PPE.
- Responsible for Daily Shift validations.
- Must possess a current and valid Driver License with clean driving record.
- All employees must read and exhibit understanding of the KSI SOPs.
- Have a fully equipped rig with proper equipment required for each job and have insurance on welding truck as per company requirements.
- Buff and grind when necessary for each job.
- Insurance Qualification specified in QA/QC program and ASME Section IX or specified Customer or code requirements for welding.
- Participate in developing the Detailed Daily Work Plan (DDWP) on job sites.
- Participate in safe work and compliance safety audits.
- Perform monthly tool audit and ensure compliance of equipment (vehicle registration/ fire extinguisher).
- Weld pipe and structural steel out of position to the quality standard specified.
- Be aware of the dangers associated with hazardous atmospheres and hazards associated with using tools and equipment.
- Pass radiographic examination or other ND inspection methods as required in the Construction Code.
- Test the job site for immediate respiratory dangers and know how to read a monitor.
- Perform tasks assigned by Crew Lead or Foreman.
- Be actively involved in all safety processes.
- Develop knowledge of KSI SOPs and refer to the SOP before each task.
- Follow all KSI and customer policies and procedures.
- Shall perform all physical and mental requirements listed.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions in English.
- Ability to communicate with employees and various business partners in a professional and courteous manner.
- Knowledge of wire and filler materials application for various steel alloys, aluminum and some exotic materials.
- Interpretation of mechanical drawings, including weld specific requirements and symbols.
- Ability to layout, prefabricate and fit various types of pipes and sizes.
- Ability to identify material: configuration type and grade.
- Use of oxygen‑acetylene cutting equipment.
- Ability to complete training for all safety processes.
- Knowledge of Lock Out/Tag Out process.
- Knowledge of Stop Work Authority (SWA).
- Knowledge of technology (iPads, cellphones etc.).
- Ability to read a tape measure, use conventional and precision measuring instruments.
- Ability to recognize and use hand and power tools; grinders, buffers and drills.
- Ability to read and use atmospheric monitors.
- Ability to demonstrate basic construction safety rules.
- Ability to work in confined spaces for long periods at a time.
- Ability to wear supplied air mask and work at high elevated platforms when welding.
Preferably 3 years of industry experience along with knowledge of tools.
Physical & Mental RequirementsMust be able to lift, grasp up to 50 lbs. with the use of fingers, palm and wrists to hold and/or manipulate objects; raise and lower objects from one level to another; twist, squat, kneel and bend in various positions with or without objects; exert force to move objects; carry and provide support to objects; work in supine, seated or standing positions.
Must also tolerate physical demands associated with construction work, including walking, climbing, and working in all types of weather conditions.
Locations vary from site to site. Work is physically demanding, requires concentration in all weather, and may involve construction-based tasks on uneven terrain, slopes, frozen, wet, snowy or slippery conditions.
Working HoursFull‑time employee typically works 40 hours per week, with schedules and hours that may vary by project and client location, including irregular shifts and weekends. All labor laws concerning rest breaks and meal periods will be followed.
