Job Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Operator in the oil and gas industry is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various types of heavy machinery involved in drilling, construction, and maintenance tasks. This role requires a high level of skill in operating equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and cranes, specifically tailored to the demands of oil and gas extraction and infrastructure development.
The operator must adhere to safety protocols and industry regulations to ensure smooth operations and support project goals.
- Equipment Operation
:- Operate heavy machinery including but not limited to excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, loaders, and cranes in support of drilling, construction, and maintenance activities.
- Perform pre-operation checks and ensure that equipment is in good working condition before use.
- Follow detailed operational guidelines and instructions to complete tasks efficiently and accurately.
- Site Preparation and Maintenance
:- Prepare and maintain job sites for equipment operation, including clearing debris, leveling surfaces, and setting up safety barriers.
- Assist in the setup and teardown of equipment and machinery on various sites.
- Safety and Compliance
:- Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures specific to the oil and gas industry, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of equipment to prevent malfunctions and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Report any equipment issues, safety hazards, or incidents to supervisors immediately.
- Project Support
:- Collaborate with other team members and supervisors to understand project requirements and provide operational support.
- Ensure precise execution of tasks such as grading, digging, lifting, and moving materials according to project specifications.
- Documentation and Reporting
:- Complete daily logs and report on project progress and any deviations from planned operations.
- Environmental and Regulatory Compliance
:- Follow environmental guidelines and regulations to minimize impact on surrounding areas.
- Ensure that operations comply with industry standards and governmental regulations.
Skills:
- Experience
:- Extensive experience with specific equipment used in oil and gas operations (e.g., hydraulic excavators, trackhoes).
- Skills
:- Advanced understanding of environmental and regulatory compliance in oil and gas.
- Certifications
:- Commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred.
- Personal Attributes
:- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and confined spaces.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
- Education
:- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of vocational training or certification in heavy equipment operation is preferred.
- Experience
:- Proven experience operating heavy equipment, particularly in the oil and gas industry, is preferred.
- Experience with specific equipment used in oil and gas operations (e.g., trackhoes, hydraulic excavators, etc.) is highly desirable.
- Certifications
:- Valid driver’s license required; a commercial driver’s license (CDL) is preferred.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., equipment-specific certifications) are advantageous.
The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job (but are not limited to). The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods of time, unassisted.
The incumbent must wear a respirator when required. Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate industrial machinery is required. This job also requires full range of body motion to include handling and lifting. The incumbent must repeatedly lift and/or move up to 65 (SIXTY-FIVE) pounds unassisted. Visual acuity, hearing, speaking, reading, and writing must be adequate to perform all required tasks in a safe manner.
