Job Summary

As an Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician – Intermediate at ONEOK, you will maintain and enhance the electrical, instrumentation, and control systems that keep our facilities running efficiently. This hands‑on position offers variety and impact—from installing and troubleshooting advanced equipment such as PLCs, SCADA systems, and gas analyzers—to supporting compressors, pumps, and emission control systems in a dynamic field environment.

You will inspect, calibrate, repair equipment, support operations networks, ensure compliance with safety standards, maintain records, and collaborate with a safety‑focused team. Competitive compensation and a $1,500‑per‑month geographic allowance accompany a clear path for growth and mentorship.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Comply with ONEOK ESH policies and governmental regulations.
  • Install, commission, operate, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, level, flow, vibration, and transmitters.
  • Maintain control valves, actuators, fire and gas detection systems, flow computers, gas analyzers, and safety interlock systems (SIS).
  • Operate and maintain SCADA systems, remote terminal units (RTU), wireless communications, PLCs and distributed control systems (DCS).
  • Support standalone human‑machine interfaces (HMI) and HMI workstations.
  • Maintain operational‑technology (OT) networks and networking equipment, including switches, fiber, Ethernet, media converters, and Modbus networks.
  • Work with pneumatic instrumentation, air‑supply systems, and emission control devices such as flare systems, vapor‑recovery units, and combustors.
  • Maintain compressors, pumps, medium‑voltage (2kV–13.8kV) and low‑voltage (120V–480V) equipment, including MCCs, switch gear, disconnects, drives, transformers, motors, distribution panels, and lighting systems.
  • Maintain and update records such as work‑order maintenance, incident reporting, mechanical‑electrical schematics, commissioning documentation, management‑of‑change (MOC), and pre‑startup safety review (PSSR).
  • Perform Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). functions, including pipeline operations, maintenance, or emergency response.
  • Operate and maintain company vehicles.
  • Complete all required training and provide leadership/mentorship to less senior technicians.
  • Perform additional functions as directed by leadership.
Education

High school diploma or GED required. Electrical apprenticeship or license, or an associate’s degree in industrial instrumentation preferred.

Experience
  • Proficiency with hand/power tools and electronic testing devices.
  • Experience with electrical safety equipment and PPE.
  • Knowledge of gas‑processing fundamentals and related software.
  • Understanding of governmental rules, regulations, codes, and industry procedures for flammable gases, liquids, and high‑pressure systems.
  • Experience with reliability‑based programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret repair orders, electrical drawings, procedures, charts, diagrams, dials, gauges, and equipment manuals.
  • Experience preparing and processing maintenance and repair records, safety reports, electrical schematics, and material orders.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of reciprocating compressors, electronic and processing equipment.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, electrical, and control systems.
  • Ability to apply basic arithmetic and algebraic formulas.
  • Ability to communicate written and verbally.
  • Ability to work overtime and be on‑call as required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and I&E software.
  • Ability to work independently or with a team.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools, equipment, and PPE supplied by ONEOK.
Physical Demands/Requirements
  • Exerting heavy (50–100lb) and moderate (25–50lb) forces; carrying, lifting, standing, walking, sitting, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Constant reaching, handling, manipulation, and use of hands and fingers.
