Overview

South Country Human Service Zone is seeking an Eligibility Worker for the Economic Assistance Department in Napoleon, ND. The Economic Assistance Unit assesses and determines eligibility for applicants by interpreting and applying complex state, federal, and county policies. The position requires knowledge of community resources and Economic Assistance programs including TANF, Health Care Coverage, SNAP, LIHEAP, Child Care Assistance, Healthy Steps, and General Assistance.

Program training is provided. Some travel throughout South Country Human Service Zone/Region 4 could occur.

To succeed in this position, you should have strong verbal and written communication skills, computer literacy, collaboration, and decision‑making skills. You should be comfortable working with various software and database applications and willing to learn new technology. A strong understanding of complex program policies and procedures is required. An ideal candidate will be organized, able to communicate effectively with diverse populations, have an eye for detail, manage time and priorities well, and demonstrate empathy and teamwork.

They should be passionate about helping others and making a difference in the community.

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, plus one of the following:

  • Three years of work experience in the clerical, accounting, financial, legal, or teaching fields
  • Three years of a bachelor's degree program (90 semester hours or 135 quarter hours)
  • Three years combined education and experience as listed above
  • Completion of the Eligibility Worker Certificate Program offered at Bismarck State College or formerly offered at Lake Region State College

Preference will be given to candidates with one year of work experience determining eligibility in a human service office in one of the following Economic Assistance Programs: TANF, Food Stamps, Foster Care, Medicaid, or LIHEAP.

Selected candidate will be required to complete a fingerprinted background check in addition to a state background check, which may take up to two weeks to process.
