Assistant Speech Advisor

The Assistant Speech Coach is responsible to the Head Speech Coach and the Activities Director for developing and conducting the sports assigned in accordance with the policies of the school district and the rules of the NDHSAA.

• Length of regular speech season shall be approximately 12 weeks.
• Attend NDHSAA rules clinic and regional meetings throughout the year as required.
• Assist the Head Coach and Activities Director with scheduling and coordinating practices and meet schedules.
• Arrange for bus transportation with the Transportation Director.
• Assist students in selecting and/or writing appropriate speeches for competition.
• Conduct practices at least two to four times per week. Practices will be at flexible times for students who are involved in other activities or athletics.
• Keep records of judge ballots and comments for student improvement throughout the season.
• Complete and send in entry forms and entry payment to meet managers.
• Responsible for proper care of stopwatches and speech materials for meets.
• Arrange participation in the regional speech meet and in the state speech meet for students who qualify.
• Establish a business dress code for all meets unless otherwise specified by the meet manager.
• Letter requirement shall be attending and competing in at least 50% of regular season meets (including the regional meet) and/or qualifying for the state speech meet. All letter earners must compete at the regional speech meet.
• Special awards may include Best Interpretation, Best Extemporaneous Speaker, Best Public Speaker, and Most Improved.
• Program will be assigned concession duties to help provide revenue to the activities department.
