Equipment Operator

• Perform highway, roadway, and structure maintenance, including operating heavy equipment, basic snow and ice control/removal, and installing, repairing, and maintaining highway signs and guardrails.
• Operate power tools and other equipment to keep roadways clear of litter, waste, debris, garbage, and carcasses.
• Carry out building and ground maintenance duties, routine maintenance of roadway and radio system equipment, and minor preventive and repair maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain necessary paperwork such as time records, activity reports, daily diaries, and road reports.
• Receive training and perform construction project duties under supervision.
• Help maintain a safe working environment for yourself, coworkers, and others.

• Must possess a valid North Dakota Class A driver license without air brake restrictions and a cargo tank endorsement (N) by the first day of work for Equipment Operator II; also have two years of relevant experience or one year of experience plus one winter season.
• Must possess a valid North Dakota Class B driver license without air brake restrictions for Equipment Operator I.
• For an Equipment Operator in Training, must have a valid North Dakota Class A driver permit without air brake restrictions and a cargo tank endorsement (N); must obtain the Class A license and endorsement within 12 months.
• Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) may substitute for required work experience, e.g., Truck Driver (88M), Horizontal Construction Engineer (12N), Pavements & Construction (3E2X1).
• Must be willing to report to work within 30 minutes after hours, on weekends, and on holidays during emergency events.
• Employment contingent upon successful completion of interviews, drug, job function, reference, driver record, and federal clearinghouse screenings.
