Hiring salary range: $3,710.00 - $5,300.00 / Bi-weekly

Accountabilities
  • Report to manager Environmental Services, Capital Projects & Programs team.
  • Treat safety as a top priority.
  • Provide key environmental support and significantly contribute to necessary environmental tasks and deliverables necessary throughout the project life cycle to ensure success. Projects may include a Class Environmental Assessment and subsequent permitting and monitoring support/oversight to address environmental commitments.
  • Responsibilities will involveexecuting or supporting all aspects of the capital, customer and strategic work execution, including, but not limited to:
  • Providing environmental input into the Project Initiation Phase (INIT) of planning by reviewing the proposed project scope, location and existing conditions within the project area.
  • Identifying further work under the scope that will be required for compliance with regulatory constraints, company policies, or previous commitments.
  • Preparing project estimates and attending meetings to provide identification of environmental risks and strategic advice to best meet the project schedule.
  • Retaining and managing environmental consultants through RFPs, proposal evaluation, and award. Administer consultant contracts. Understand typical cost ranges of each and drive quality and efficiency expectations from consultants. Review Contractor Environmental Management Plans.
  • Tracking environmental work plans, budgets and schedules.
  • Ensuring accuracy and appropriate application of technical data.
  • Preparing Project Notices and enhanced and innovative engagement planning and execution.
  • Meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities, regulatory agencies, project stakeholders, and the public, as well as internal groups on various aspects of EA, approvals and permitting per Hydro One policies, while advancing resolutions.
  • Procuring and directing environmental studies such as natural heritage, air & noise emission assessments, cultural heritage, land use, visual assessments, agricultural capability, Environmental Site Assessments, surface and groundwater studies etc.
  • Participation in Community Open Houses(virtual and/or in-person).
  • Addressing concerns and inquiries from various interest groups.
  • Tracking of consultation with rights holder and other stakeholders (e.g., use of Borealis)
  • The identification and assessment of environmental features, constraints, alternatives, potential environmental effects, mitigation measures and avoidance opportunities.
  • Ensuring consistency of approach with similar projects.

    Maintaining a transparent and repeatable project execution process.
  • Completing clear, well-written reports, presentations and documentation.
  • Preparing and reviewing Environmental Due Diligence Reports, Environmental Protection Plans/Specification documents in support of electrical infrastructure projects (lines and stations).
  • Obtaining environmental and related permits, licenses, approvals and authorizations.
  • Documenting, organizing and filing project information appropriately within existing systems including Borealis consultation software, Commitment Layer of GIS, and in SharePoint.
  • Conducting site visits and monitoring environmental aspects of stations and lines projects in the field.
  • Provide guidance, andassistanceto project and asset managers and construction personnel responsible for new transmission and distribution projects and refurbishment of existing facilitiesregardingenvironmental aspects, applicablelegislationand guidelines, including corporate policies.
  • Apply a strategic mindset to dealings and negotiations with the various stakeholders, agencies and entities that is routed in respect, compliance and stewardship while serving the best interest of the organization.
  • Maintain an awareness of, and advance new techniques in the environmental management field.
  • Prepare and present technical and organizational information to internal or external groups.
  • Follow internal protocols and new practices todemonstrateconsistency of approach and organization.

Selection Criteria Essential Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications
  • Four-year university degree (at minimum) in environmental studies, natural sciences, planning, or a related field.
  • Over six years (at minimum) relevant work experience in the environmental field.
