In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Director, Medical Staff Support and Resources, the Manager, Medical Staff Human Resource (MSHR) Planning and Governance directly oversees Island Health's Medical Staff Governance program and leads annual medical staff human resource planning and impact analysis processes in accordance with organizational policy and the Medical Staff Rules and Bylaws. This position works closely with senior leadership, designs and undertakes high-visibility workforce development initiatives, and delivers analytics and project insights across the organization.
The Manager collaborates with a wide variety of peers and stakeholders, including medical staff recruitment, contracts, compensation, practice design, quality, analytics and clinical improvement, education, change management, project delivery, communications, and practice leaders to solve medical staff workforce challenges across Island Health. The Manager identifies opportunities for workforce and organizational improvement, plans and executes strategic initiatives, evaluates project performance, and provides subject matter expertise and consultation services related to medical staff human resource planning.
The role collaborates with internal and external stakeholders at all levels and inspires others to achieve goals and deliverables through facilitation and effective communication.
Education, Training And Experience
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in a relevant field such as Health Services Administration, Human Resources, Business Administration or relevant health care discipline with seven (7) to ten (10) year's recent, related experience preferably in a complex healthcare organization that includes leading projects and change initiatives with organizational impact. Previous experience facilitating and managing consultation processes with a wide range of stakeholder groups along with excellent communication skills to function within a complex interdisciplinary environment are important assets to this role.

- Broad knowledge of patient care delivery systems in primary, acute and community settings.
- Effective facilitation, persuasion and negotiation abilities to achieve consensus, resolve conflict and achieve desired outcomes.
- Works effectively under time pressure to meet deadlines, balance work priorities and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
