Hours: 2:30PM - 9:30PM Daily
Starting rate: $23.52 per hour
Position Description: NHHS is seeking a patrolling security guard for afternoon/evenings and Saturdays. This position entails ensuring the safety of students and adults in three academic floors, two gymnasiums, the theater, and associated spaces, including times of heavy use. Responsibilities include monitoring adults and students, patrolling the building and exterior perimeter, ensuring that exterior doors remain closed and locked, and addressing/reporting concerns in a timely fashion.
Experienceand Qualifications
No particular experience is required to apply, but experience in security or police work will be looked upon favorably. Applications should possess demonstrated ability to work respectfully and amicably with individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
ContextAs a comprehensive public high school of 1,000 students, NHHS is busy with activities after school through evening with about half of all students participating in CIAC sports. In addition, NHHS has about 50 clubs and activities. Events that take place during afternoons and evenings include "extra help" with teachers, open tutoring sessions (2PM-4PM twice per week), sports practices and games, club meetings, activity meetings, music performances, drama rehearsals, drama set construction, and drama performances.
Numbers of these events are also attended by parents and community members. In addition, NHHS hosts adult education courses Monday through Thursday evenings, which bring adults from the larger community into the school and the proximity of students.
The Guard 3 position will be governed by the United Public Service Employees Union (UPSEU), categorized and paid as Group 3 Step 1 (starting at $23.52/hour for initial step placement). The position is full time at 35 hours per week, with some flexibility in scheduling required to secure building events. Weekend work may be required.
