Green Acres Early Childhood Preschool Special Education Teacher

North Haven Public Schools (CT) Green Acres Elementary School – North Haven, Connecticut

Job Description

Will provide specialized instruction to preschool students who are identified with a disability of Autism and multiple disabilities in the preschool classroom.

Education & Qualifications
  • Valid 112, 113, or 165 Connecticut Certification
  • A minimum of field work experience at the college level
  • Autism Certification, degree or extensive formal coursework in autism and/or students with significant cognitive and/or behavioral challenges
  • Experience conducting Functional Behavioral Analysis and writing behavioral support plans, analyzing behavioral data
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Planning and Placement Team process and legal and related compliance
  • Conduct appropriate evaluations and assist other teams in understanding the special education eligibility process for students with or suspected of having a disability, including the use of state guidelines
  • Demonstrate teacher–leadership qualities to bring initiative and innovation to the special education department in the above areas
Responsibilities & Expectations
  • Implement, model, monitor, and adjust a variety of instructional and social/emotional strategies across all settings – restrictive settings, regular classroom settings, and non‑instructional settings, in cooperation with general education classroom staff
  • Ability to initiate productive communication to address student concerns with administration, team members, and parents
  • Develop a daily/weekly schedule of instructional and non‑instructional activities for each para educator that supports students on your caseload with the intent to build students’ independence
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit and talk or hear
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; may lift or move up to ten (10) pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision and distance vision
Work Environment
  • Noise level varies from quiet to loud depending on the activity
