Purpose of Position

This is a full-time 37.5-hour-a-week exempt position. The Training Supervisor reports directly to the Teacher Development Mentor/Coach. A great candidate must be motivated and have the ability to work with students with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability as well as the ability to teach adult learners.

Responsibilities

The following duties are assigned to this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Hiring & Training
  • Leads the hiring process. Works with the para educator supervisor to review resumes, schedule interviews, conduct interviews.
  • Provides initial and on-going training (orientation and skill building), including ensuring that the employee understands what his/her job expectations are and how their work ties into Benhaven’s Mission and Values.
  • Provides ongoing support and encouragement to implement skills learned through training.
  • Observes assigned staff in classroom and community settings as part of training and to identify strengths and areas in need of development.
  • Maintains training documentation for all new employees.
  • Creates and maintains training materials and presentations.
  • Gives on-going and timely constructive feedback and applicable training to ensure a high quality of performance.
  • Serves as a member of the school’s training team/PDEC: coordinating the yearly in-service schedule, presenting and recruiting presenters and topics.
  • Regularly assesses orientations/trainings, follow-up sessions and revises/updates as needed.
  • Coordinates, delivers and ensures required employees complete Harness Training.
  • Provides beginner Educational Assistant training, delivered after promotion to educational assistant 1 and to those hired as educational assistant 2.
  • Supports EA1 and EA2 (hired as EA2) to develop needed skills.
Supervision and Support
  • Coordinates/ensures attendance at orientation and skill-building meetings.
  • Supervises employees in their first year of employment/until promotion to educational assistant 1 or as needed based on growth of employee.
  • Supervises per diem employees level 1.
  • Conducts supervisory meetings (weekly or monthly) for:
    • Providing ongoing training, skill building and feedback
    • Providing supervision to ensure employees understand and follow Benhaven policies and procedures.
    • Serving as a resource and providing staff with training and support to pass competency exam(s) and advance to higher levels.
    • Developing a professional development plan with the employee.
  • Recommends staff to school director for promotion to educational assistant.
  • Accessible to para educators for support, check-in, etc.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of meetings and other pertinent information.
  • Communicates regularly with the Teacher/Classroom Coordinator when necessary, regarding assigned staff.
  • Provides the employee with timely and fair evaluations, including soliciting feedback from, teachers, administrators, preparing documents, sharing results with the employee.
  • Develops a professional development plan with the employee.
  • Recognizes need for and implements progressive discipline with support as appropriate up to and including termination of employment.
  • Assists in preparing materials for unemployment hearings. Testifies as needed.
Leadership & Team Skills
  • Works collaboratively with teachers/related services/administrators. Serves as resource to all staff
  • Facilitates and ensures open and effective communication among para educators to foster team building.
  • Nurtures a positive environment for new para educators.
  • Builds a supportive environment and nurtures teamwork, growth, and success.
  • Builds a community of practice to share experiences and feedback from the training unit team.
  • Fosters an environment where staff are respected and where their contributions are valued and acknowledged.
  • Works in the classroom to provide coverage as needed
