Position Summary

Researches, analyzes, designs, andtestscomponentparts,processes,or systemsto develop new and/orimprovecoreproducts.

Develop sand recommends solutions to well-definedengineeringrequirements, or for components or segments of a complex product or system, to ensure that designobjectivesare met. Applies engineeringprinciplesbased on assigned engineering domain (e.g. mechanical;electrical, chemical, etc)

Scope/Supervision and Interaction

Primarily interacts with internal Parker contacts and cross-functional teams, including product engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and operations; occasional customer or supplier interface related to material performance, qualification, or technical issue resolution.

This role does not have direct reports.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Develops detailed material, component, and process specifications by analyzing performance requirements, customer requirements, service environments, and applicable industry standards. Investigates metallurgical factors such as alloy selection, microstructure, mechanical properties, heat treatment, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, manufacturability, cost, and operational efficiency.

Performs feasibility studies, trade studies, and material evaluations using standard metallurgical and analytical methods. Recommends material and process solutions that are defined, reviewed, and aligned with product performance, quality, and manufacturing objectives.

Interprets and validates material test results for accuracy and precision, including mechanical testing, hardness testing, metallography, chemical analysis, coating/plating evaluation, heat treatment verification, corrosion testing, and failure analysis. Ensures conformance to product qualification procedures, material specifications, and reliability and safety standards.

Provides technical information for review with product engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams using established engineering practices, standards, and documentation methods. Writes supporting documentation for material evaluations, test procedures, technical reports, root-cause investigations, and engineering recommendations; may assist in preparing technical proposals or customer responses.

Contributes to project milestones associated with material selection, component development, manufacturing process improvement, product qualification, supplier qualification, and corrective action activities. Reviews drawings, specifications, material requirements, process documentation, and test data to support project execution and product integrity.

Reviews material and product specifications to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to applicable standards and procedures. Identifies material-related design concerns, processing risks, test gaps, specification errors, omissions, or other deficiencies, and recommends revisions, engineering change orders, and improvements to engineering management or the project team.

Supports investigations of material performance issues, manufacturing nonconformances, field failures, and supplier quality concerns. Applies metallurgical root-cause analysis methods to identify failure mechanisms and recommends corrective and preventive actions.

Maintains a current level of professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications and industry standards, and/or participating in professional associations related to metallurgy, materials science, manufacturing, and product reliability.

Shares specialized metallurgical and materials engineering knowledge with others. Assists in mentoring new employees and supporting cross-functional technical development. May represent the company on specific projects, supplier reviews, customer discussions, or engineering tasks related to materials and metallurgical performance.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering or science technical discipline; or Professional Engineer (PE) certificate.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 2–3 years of related experience in metallurgy, materials engineering, manufacturing engineering, product engineering, quality engineering, or a related technical field.
