A Day in the Life
As a Engineering Technician at Medtronic, you are the primary technical expert responsible for designing, optimizing, implementing, and validating automated manufacturing processes. You will troubleshoot complex electromechanical failures, ensuring that high-speed production equipment—from simple relays to advanced servo robotics and machine vision systems—operates at peak efficiency while adhering strictly to regulated quality standards. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Provides technical support to engineers to achieve improvements in cycle-time, yield, unit cost, quality, safety and compliance of production and operations processes and products.
- Monitors instruments and equipment and collects operating data, including calibration, inspection, testing and repair activities, to assist in making on-line adjustments to instruments, equipment, or products.
- Analyzes and resolves malfunctions and deviations of instruments and control systems to identify and resolve problems.
- Conducts, analyses and prepares reports using metrics from salvage tracking, trending, reporting and root-cause analyses.
- Maintains process designs to optimize process, equipment and facility use while conforming to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

- Requires basic knowledge of systems, techniques, tools and procedures typically obtained through prior related work experience, training, and/or education.

Nice to Have
- Technical experience in controls, automation, or equipment maintenance
- Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial electrical systems
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues in a manufacturing or lab environment
- Experience reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Hands-on use of diagnostic and test equipment
- Experience documenting technical work accurately and thoroughly
- Exposure to regulated manufacturing environments and quality system expectations
- Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Working knowledge of continuous improvement tools and practices
- Ability to adapt quickly and support multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
