Manual Machinist

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Manual Machinist role based in North Haven, CT. The Manual Machinist will set up and operate manual machines such as lathes, mills, and grinders to produce and repair components to specification. Responsibilities include reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings, selecting appropriate tooling and materials, and measuring work pieces using precision instruments to ensure dimensional accuracy. The role also involves performing adjustments during machining, deburring and finishing parts, maintaining equipment and a clean work area, and collaborating with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and customer requirements.

The Manual Machinist may assist with prototype development, reverse engineering, and support work related to retrofits and restorations.

• Ability to set up and operate manual machine tools (e.g., lathes, mills, drills, grinders) and work with various metals, including alloy steels.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions, including understanding tolerances and geometric features.
• Skilled in using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges, dial indicators) and performing accurate inspections of machined parts.
• Experience with machining processes such as turning, milling, drilling, tapping, boring, facing, and surface finishing for prototype and repair work.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting abilities, and awareness of machine operating parameters to make appropriate adjustments during production.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to follow instructions and coordinate with supervisors and colleagues.
• Prior experience as a manual machinist in a job shop or similar environment preferred; vocational training or apprenticeship in machining is beneficial.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and perform hands-on work in a manufacturing setting.
