Merchandising Assistant Store Manager in Training (MASM-IT) will gain hands‑on experience in the key responsibilities and functions of a Specialty Assistant Store Manager at The Home Depot. The MASM‑IT will undergo a comprehensive training program that includes hands‑on experience, mentorship, and leadership development. Throughout training, MASMs in Training become familiar with Manager on Duty duties and learn to oversee the various Merchandising departments (Garden, Hardware, Lumber, Building Materials, Plumbing, and Electrical) to ensure the successful execution of key programs that enhance customer service, product availability, and store presentation.
MASMs in Training will collaborate with the Store Manager, Assistant Store Managers (ASMs), and Merchandising field teams and learn to develop and implement strategies that boost sales and profitability, creating actionable game plans for departmental success, and ensuring smooth department operations. MASM‑ITs are expected to lead by example and uphold, maintain, and support all lawful company policies. The training period, up to 6 weeks, will involve learning to execute MASM key responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities- Customer Experience (15%) – Supervise associates in the selling effort, lead GET culture, and set the example. Drive customer service and associate engagement, ensuring customer concerns are solved promptly.
- Operations Management (10%) – Perform opening, closing, and other store-wide responsibilities. Adhere to all company policies and hold associates accountable. Command store SOPs, especially safety compliance, and maintain process accuracy to mitigate shrink.
- Safety (10%) – Ensure self and associates follow all safety and hazardous‑material procedures and Safety Matters guidelines at all times.
- Sales and Productivity (15%) – Plan merchandise placement, signing, and support stock integrity through inventory management. Operate store equipment and systems and manage daily financial operations.
- Training and Preparation for Assistant Manager Position (50%) – Participate in a structured training program covering operations, customer service, sales & profitability, and company policies. Learn and demonstrate tactics for staffing, scheduling, resolving stock deficiencies, selling behaviors, customer issues, and service needs. Complete all training modules and assessments.

- Must continuously stand or walk and regularly lift or handle material or equipment of moderate weight (8–20 pounds).
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
