Job Type: Part-time
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct pre- and post‑trip inspections on agency‑owned or leased vehicles in strict accordance with agency policy; document inspections, mileage, and other reporting as required by agency and regulatory requirements; submit completed documentation to the Transportation Coordinator and communicate any maintenance or safety concerns immediately.
- Drive the vehicle from the individual or central loading area to community locations or other destinations according to the assigned schedule.
- Assist passengers into and out of the vehicle; secure wheelchairs to restraining devices; insure proper use of seat belts and other approved safety equipment during the trip.
- Assess the physical environment of all service locations, including but not limited to 432 Washington Avenue, North Haven, community work sites, senior centers, recreational facilities, and other community settings; report safety hazards to the immediate supervisor or appropriate personnel.
- Operate radio or similar device to communicate with the base station or other vehicles to report disruption of service.
- Clean and service the vehicle with fuel, lubricants, and accessories.
- Keep records of trips and passenger behavior via the Program Incident Report.
- Perform delivery of interoffice mail to various agency locations as assigned.
- Clean off vehicles following inclement weather and assist with preparation of vehicles in anticipation of inclement weather.
- Perform other duties as required or directed.

Qualifications- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to twelve months related experience and/or training.
- Language skills: ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; complete basic forms such as Incident Reports; communicate effectively with passengers and other customers of the organization.
- Mathematical skills: ability to comprehend and follow set schedules.
- Reasoning ability: apply common sense to carry out simple instructions, follow set schedules, and handle standardized situations with few or no variables.
- Certificates, licenses, registrations: valid Connecticut Driver’s License in good standing; ability to secure a Connecticut Public Service License (PSL) within 90 days of hire.
- Other skills and abilities: obtain approved certification in physical/psychological management training (PMT), CPR, and First Aid.
The employee must regularly sit, frequently talk or hear, occasionally stand, walk, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Must assist with mobility needs of individuals receiving services by pushing or pulling non‑motorized wheelchairs or escorting individuals with or without assistive devices, potentially bearing the full or partial weight of an individual for a period of time.
Vision requirements include close, distance, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid, cold and heat. Noise level usually moderate.
