Overview

Second Shift D476, Quonset Point Construction Support Engineering, has a Systems Engineering position available. Our engineering and design group is responsible for providing on-site deck plate support for all second shift operations at the Quonset Point facility for both the VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class, including structural, mechanical, piping, and electrical construction.

• Resolve and troubleshoot second shift construction issues; integrate with second shift Quonset Point operations and support groups; and liaise between second shift operations and various stakeholders.
• Function as an engineering multidisciplinary representative supporting VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class while focusing on providing deck plate support to second shift operations at the Quonset Point facility.
• Dispositon/review engineering reports, address design issues, provide UNSAT responses, ensure timely resolution, and work independently.
• Engage with operations, ship’s management, quality assurance, support groups, QP test and planning; communicate assessments to operations; provide technical advice/guidance; and perform or assist with continuous improvement projects.
• Coordinate priority COLUMBIA or VIRGINIA Class construction issues with first shift and provide follow-on support for any priority issue being addressed by first shift.

Newly hired personnel will be assigned a mentor to assist in learning the above roles and responsibilities.

• Bachelor of Science degree or higher in civil/structural engineering
• 0-1 years of post-graduate engineering experience
• The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense secret clearance

• Capstone Project Leader
• Experience with troubleshooting and technical problem solving
• CAD experience
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

• Candidates possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
• Candidates must be able to take initiative and work independently
• Candidates must be highly motivated and able to perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in a team environment
• This position requires physical interfacing in manufacturing shops and on submarine modules, including climbing and accessing confined space
