Shipbuilding Ship Superintendent Job Summary

A growing shipyard organization is seeking an experienced Ship Superintendent to oversee vessel construction, conversion, and repair projects. You will serve as the primary on-site leader for assigned vessels, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget
.

Responsibilities
  • Lead daily shipyard operations for assigned vessel construction, modification, and repair projects
  • Coordinate and supervise multi-trade activities including structural, piping, electrical, mechanical, and subcontracted work
  • Monitor project schedules and adjust work sequencing to maintain milestones and delivery commitments
  • Interface with engineering, quality, production, and subcontractors to resolve technical and operational issues
  • Review drawings, specifications, and change documentation to ensure proper execution
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards, quality requirements, and safety procedures
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, surveys, and project turnover activities
  • Track project progress and communicate risks, challenges, and status updates to management
  • Manage labor, equipment, and resources to support efficient project execution
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to workflow, planning, safety, and productivity
Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years of shipyard experience with direct responsibility for vessel construction, conversion, or repair projects
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-trade shipyard operations
  • Strong understanding of vessel systems including structural, piping, mechanical, and electrical disciplines
  • Knowledge of classification society and regulatory requirements
  • Proven ability to manage schedules, budgets, priorities, and personnel
