Rhode Island Company: NSC Staffing Send Resumes to: NSC Staffing is seeking an experienced Pipe Field Engineer (Direct Hire) to support shipyard new construction and repair projects in Rhode Island. This role serves as a key bridge between engineering and production teams, ensuring piping systems are successfully planned, installed, and delivered in accordance with project requirements. Position Overview The Pipe Field Engineer is responsible for supporting the planning, routing, installation, testing, and commissioning of marine piping systems. This role provides on-site technical expertise, ensures compliance with industry standards, and drives efficient execution of piping work across shipboard systems. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and experienced in shipyard environments with strong knowledge of marine piping systems and construction processes.
Key Responsibilities- Piping Engineering & Construction Support
- Support construction and installation of marine piping systems, including fuel, ballast, hydraulic, cooling, bilge and auxiliary systems
- Provide on-site technical guidance to production teams during installation and testing
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve technical issues
- Routing, Layout & Coordination
- Plan and verify piping system routing, ensuring proper clearances and coordination with other trades
- Identify and resolve interferences between piping, structural, HVAC, and electrical systems
- Ensure proper fit-up and installation practices across all piping systems
- As-Built Documentation & Drawings
- Update and maintain accurate piping drawings reflecting field changes
- Create redlines and as-built documentation to ensure alignment with construction conditions
- Ensure all documentation complies with design standards and project specifications
- Quality & Compliance
- Ensure piping installations meet ABS and U.S. Coast Guard requirements
- Support inspections, pressure testing, flushing, and system commissioning
- Maintain quality documentation and ensure compliance with applicable standards
- Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Identify discrepancies between design and field conditions and resolve issues promptly
- Recommend improvements to piping layouts, sequencing, and construction practices
- Support safe and efficient shipyard operations
- Materials & Procurement Support
- Provide input on piping materials, take-offs, and sourcing requirements
- Support procurement and material planning activities as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related field preferred OR equivalent shipyard piping experience
- Minimum 7+ years of shipyard experience, focused on new construction or major vessel modifications
- Minimum 5+ years supporting piping construction, fabrication, or installation
- Strong knowledge of marine piping systems and materials, fabrication and installation practices, testing and commissioning procedures
- Ability to interpret ABS and USCG requirements
- Experience supporting projects delivered on time and within budget
- Proficiency in AutoCAD;
Ship Constructor or similar software preferred - Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and coordination abilities
- Ability to work independently in an active shipyard environment
Physical Requirements
- Shipyard and vessel environments, including confined spaces and elevated work areas
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights (50+ feet), and access tight spaces
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks
- Must wear required PPE, including respirator, hardhat, fall protection, and safety gear
- Exposure to varying environmental conditions, including indoor and outdoor work
