Required Skills & Experience
  • 5+ years of experience as a Network Engineer.
  • Experience supporting network infrastructure projects in construction, new building deployments, or large-scale facility environments.
  • Experience reading and interpreting architectural drawings and low-voltage layouts.
  • Strong hands‑on experience installing, configuring, and supporting Cisco Routers and Switches.
  • Experience with routing and switching technologies including OSPF, VLANs, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking.
  • Experience supporting and configuring firewalls and strong understanding of network security principles and best practices.
  • Experience with enterprise network design and implementation.
  • Knowledge of structured cabling standards and network infrastructure design.
  • Understanding of fiber optic networking technologies including single and multi-mode fiber.
  • Experience performing network troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
  • Cisco certifications (CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent).
  • Experience with wireless network design and deployment.
  • Experience with Palo Alto, Fortinet, or Cisco firewalls.
  • Experience with fiber testing and certification tools.
  • Experience with network monitoring and management platforms.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Network Engineer to support the design, deployment, and implementation of network infrastructure for new construction projects and facility expansions in Rhode Island. This individual will work closely with construction teams, facilities personnel, architects, low-voltage contractors, and IT leadership to ensure network infrastructure is properly designed and installed to support business operations. This is a hands‑on engineering role focused on both network design and physical infrastructure implementation.

The ideal candidate will have experience reviewing construction drawings and floor plans, determining network infrastructure requirements, designing switching and routing environments, and overseeing installation activities during building construction and renovation projects. The Network Engineer will be responsible for ensuring network connectivity, resiliency, and scalability across new facilities while supporting enterprise network standards, security requirements, and best practices.

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
  • Review architectural drawings, floor plans, and construction documents to determine network infrastructure requirements.
  • Design and implement network solutions for new buildings, facility expansions, and renovation projects.
  • Install and configure Cisco routers, switches, wireless infrastructure, and network hardware.
  • Validate network cabling layouts, MDF/IDF room designs, rack elevations, and equipment placement.
  • Design and support Layer 2 and Layer 3 network environments.
  • Configure and troubleshoot routing protocols including OSPF.
  • Configure and support switching technologies including VLANs, STP (Spanning Tree Protocol), port security, and redundancy solutions.
  • Support firewall implementation, rule management, and security best practices.
  • Review and validate fiber optic designs and cabling plans.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity, performance, and infrastructure issues during and after deployment.
  • Ensure network infrastructure adheres to enterprise standards, security requirements, and documentation practices.
  • Conduct site surveys and participate in construction planning meetings.
  • Create and maintain network diagrams, as‑built documentation, and implementation plans.
  • Support cutovers, equipment migrations, and network turn‑up activities for newly constructed facilities.
