Howes is looking to add a Chemistry Lab Technician to our team.
This is an onsite position at our office in North Kingstown, RI.

Job Summary:

The Chemistry Lab Technician supports daily laboratory operations by assisting the Chemist with sample preparation, routine testing, and general lab maintenance. This role is ideal for recent graduates beginning a career in laboratory science and provides hands-on training in laboratory procedures, safety practices, and quality standards.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Prepare chemical solutions, reagents, and samples by following established procedures and instructions.
  • Perform basic chemical and physical tests such as pH, viscosity, density, moisture analysis, and titrations under supervision.
  • Operate and learn to calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment with guidance and training.
  • Record test results, observations, and data accurately in laboratory logs or electronic systems.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines, and quality requirements at all times.
  • Assist QC Chemist with experiments, formulations, and testing activities.
  • Inspect raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Help maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, chemicals, and materials, ensuring proper labeling and storage.
  • Support proper disposal of chemical waste in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Identify and report equipment issues, testing irregularities, or safety concerns to supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready laboratory environment.
Qualifications:
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in chemistry, laboratory science, or a related field.
  • Willingness to learn laboratory techniques, equipment operation, and safety practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and basic documentation skills.
  • Prior laboratory experience is a plus but not required.
  • Laboratory setting with exposure to chemicals and laboratory equipment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
