No prior experience is required. Comprehensive, paid training is provided to help you develop the skills needed to join Electric Boat’s highly respected Building Trades workforce.
Responsibilities (post-training) would be consistent with a role as an entry-level Ship fitter, Pipefitter, or Welder, including but not limited to the following:
Participation in continuous training in traditional and new processes, using both conventional and state-of-the art equipment.
Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine project requirements.
Utilizing an assortment of hand and power tools.
Ability to read and interpret written policies, procedures, and guidelines as work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures.
Basic mathematic ability.
Additional tasks, as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent OR a minimum of 2 years of related technical experience.
Available to work all shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd).Ability to work with various environmental attributes, such as heights, hot/cold temperatures, dry or dusty air, loud noises, exposure to fumes/oils, and confined spaces.
Comfortable with various physical qualifications, such as climbing, crawling, kneeling, light and medium lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping, and twisting.
Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools for some roles.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals.
Preferred:
Graduate of a vocational, technical, community college, or apprentice program.
Experience and/or training in the construction industry or a manufacturing environment.
Basic mathematical skills.
Military/Navy experience.
Ability to interpret welding and shipyard procedures, structural drawings, technical manuals, test documents, and diagrams.
