Residential Care Counselor
Location: Brown University Health
Department: Residential Treatment Program
The Residential Care Counselor provides direct care, supervision, and therapeutic support to children in a residential setting. As a key member of a multidisciplinary team, this role helps develop and implement individualized treatment plans, ensuring a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities- Build positive therapeutic relationships with children and families upon admission
- Complete initial assessments and care plans within 24 hours
- Implement, monitor, and update individualized residential treatment plans
- Accurately document observations, behaviors, and progress
- Supervise daily routines and assist with activities of daily living (ADLs)
- Support behavioral management and therapeutic interventions
- Respond to crises safely using least‑restrictive methods
- Participate in treatment teams, meetings, and program activities
- Promote a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment
- Model appropriate behavior and interactions at all times
- Follow all hospital, program, and safety policies
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 6–12 months experience working with emotionally or behaviorally challenged youth
- Required certifications (or willingness to obtain):
- Crisis Management
- CPR
- ERS, Safety, and OSHA
- Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to build trust and support diverse populations
- Fast‑paced residential treatment setting
- Independent work within established program guidelines
- Collaboration with multidisciplinary care teams
- No supervisory responsibilities

Pay Range$18.13-$29.90
