Pulse Power Senior Scientist – Mission Support and Test Services, LLC
MSTS manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Our mission is to help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high‑hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services, and by acting as environmental stewards to the Site's Cold War legacy.

We are looking for a full‑time Senior Scientist to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide diagnostic fielding and development support in a national laboratory environment. The Stockpile Experimentation & Operations (SEO) organization is seeking a highly motivated scientist to collaborate in design, development, characterization, and fielding of Pulse Power systems on high‑stake weapons physics experiments conducted at the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experiments (PULSE) and other facilities located at the NNSS.

Responsibilities- Manage pulse power X‑ray sources, oscilloscopes, function generators, delay generators, etc.
- Maintain the performance of pulsed power X‑ray sources.
- Support execution of program/project activities and data collection (classified systems/networks, diagnostics, and x‑rays).
- Coordinate project execution compliance with peers and other disciplines.
- Work with scientists, engineers, and technicians on development and fielding of x‑ray imaging, x‑ray dosimetry, electrical diagnostics, and data acquisition systems.
- Serve as team supervisor, person in charge (PIC), and radiation generating device custodian (RGD) as required.
- Research, extract, analyze, and compile technical data.
- Prepare reports, graphs, proposals, studies, and correspondence.
- Assist in preliminary engineering analysis, conceptual design, and engineering calculations.
- Review project design and technical documents.
- Demonstrate compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate or bachelor's degree in a calculus‑based technical (STEM) field with at least 5 years of relevant experience; graduate research experience may be recognized.
- Proficiency in pulse power systems required.
- Experience with radiographic and optical imaging systems desired.
- Experience with data analysis or engineering software such as MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, Solid Works, or Creo desired.
- Working knowledge of office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work underground and under minimal supervision on a dynamic multidisciplinary project.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills; interface with scientists, engineers, technicians, and outside organizations.
- Capacity to manage deadlines and multiple tasks.
- Good work ethic, motivation to succeed, and self‑starter.
- Occasional travel required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Pre‑placement physical examination with drug screen required; substance abuse policy includes random drug testing.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, 18+ years of age, and able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance.
- Background review includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, employment/education verification, and federal background investigation.
The selected candidate will be cleared to DOE Q‑level and undergo a counterintelligence evaluation and potentially a polygraph examination.
