Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities

The Design Engineering Department is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer with proven experience in the design and analysis of non-building structures. This includes concrete and steel infrastructure such as industrial platforms, misc. supports, equipment foundations, and related civil/structural works. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in structural concrete design, shallow foundations, and non-building steel structures, and will be comfortable taking projects from concept through construction.

This includes preparation of calculations, reports, specifications, checking of drawings and field trips to the site. Work will need to be completed in accordance with NNSS procedures and Department of Energy (DOE) requirements.

  • Perform structural analysis and design of reinforced concrete and structural steel systems for non-building applications.
  • Design and detail concrete foundations, retaining systems, tanks, pits, and specialty industrial structures.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, construction drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Review and sign drawings, calculations, and design documents as the responsible engineer of record.
  • Collaborate with multi discipline engineers, and contractors to ensure constructability and compliance with project requirements.
  • Conduct field inspections, site assessments, and provide engineering support during construction.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable codes and standards (IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE, etc.).
  • Devise solutions to highly complex technical problems of broad scope. Solutions may require resolving conflicting customer expectations and design requirements, utilizing unconventional technology and materials, and cross-disciplinary integration.
  • Interpret and adapt guidelines for specific cases.
  • Evaluate processes, procedures, and work instructions to improve performance.
  • Conduct or lead research; develop and design new instrumentation, equipment, and procedures for testing and solving problems; present papers; and keep abreast of new technological developments, methods or materials, keeping management informed of important new advances.
  • Ensure deliverables comply with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees
  • Or Calculus-based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Or for Architects, Certification from the National Council or Architectural Registration Board (NCARB)
  • Or Professional Engineer license
