Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities

Do you want to be a part of a national security mission that conducts research and development? Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is seeking a full‑time Engineer I to join our team within the Technologies and Operations (T&O) – Optical Mechanical Technologies organization. The incumbent will provide professional engineering expertise and hands‑on support for a variety of projects. This role involves contributing to the design and analysis of mechanical assemblies and components using Solid Works, providing field support for builds and assembly with basic hand tools, and engaging with customers and collaborating laboratories.

This position is ideal for an individual looking to apply their academic knowledge in a dynamic environment, focusing on developing practical skills while adhering to established technical specifications, safety protocols, and engineering best practices. The work consists of applying fundamental engineering principles to solve problems of basic complexity, working both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Key responsibilities include supporting engineering design, executing project tasks, and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations.

The position requires adaptability as duties can change based on customer needs. The work is performed in a combination of office, laboratory, and field settings, and directly contributes to the successful completion of larger engineering projects by ensuring the accuracy and reliability of specific components and assemblies. This position will primarily report to NLV but will often require support and fielding efforts at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Contributes to the design of mechanical assemblies and components using Solid Works.
  • Assists in performing design and technical analysis activities using prescribed codes, standards, and computer software.
  • Contributes to designs, strategies, reports, and technical proposals.
  • Supports field programs and designs using pre‑determined principles and practices.
  • Provides hands‑on field support, including the use of basic hand tools for mechanical builds and assembly.
  • Works independently on assigned tasks within an established framework, following detailed technical specifications.
  • Assists in defining specifications for procurements, initiates purchase requests.
  • Supports the engagement with customers, other organizations, and collaborates with National Weapons laboratories.
  • Coordinates discipline information with other departments and outside vendors to obtain relevant information.
  • Serves as a member of work teams to contribute to solutions for assignment‑related problems.
  • Performs other duties assigned by Management.
