Key Responsibilities

The Area General Manager will provide senior‑level leadership across multiple operating facilities, ensuring operational performance, customer satisfaction, and compliance with all contractual and safety standards.

Operational Leadership
  • Oversee daily operations for multi‑facility fixed‑route transit services.
  • Provide strategic guidance and leadership to management teams across locations.
  • Establish business goals and performance targets aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Lead and support the successful implementation or management of BRT systems (preferred experience).
Client & Community Partnership
  • Serve as primary liaison with clients, government agencies, and community stakeholders.
  • Ensure delivery service aligns with contractual obligations and community expectations.
  • Address and resolve escalated service, customer, and operational issues.
People Leadership
  • Hire, train, develop, and retain high‑performing management teams.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and ensure strong bench strength.
  • Build strong employee and union relationships; oversee labor agreements, grievances, and contract negotiations.
Financial & Business Performance
  • Develop annual operating and capital budgets in partnership with regional leadership.
  • Monitor financial performance, asset management, and cost‑control measures.
  • Oversee revenue contracts, billing, scheduling, and reporting functions.
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (FTA, FMCSR, OSHA, etc.).
  • Maintain a strong safety culture across all facilities and service teams.
  • Oversee maintenance programs to ensure safe, clean, and reliable fleet operations.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Transportation, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of senior leadership experience in fixed‑route transit operations
  • 5+ years managing multi‑unit locations, preferably with over 700 employees.
  • Strong labor/union relations experience (including negotiations and arbitrations)
  • Experience working with city, county, and state government agencies.
  • Proven ability to manage complex operational, financial, and personnel issues.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Highly organized, strategic, and able to lead multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Preferred

  • Experience implementing or managing BRT services.
  • Previous high‑level leadership in a large metropolitan transit system
